As engineers we love technology, but our technologies are often co-opted to do work that does not improve the world in the ways we had hoped.

Many engineers consider the consequences of their work, but due to the structure of traditional engineering organizations are oftem unable to voice their concerns.

Engineers often are expected to be pure implementors of ideas dreamed up by management only in service of profit.

Profit is a critical aspect of any company, but driven to the extreme leads to enshitiffication, exploitation and massive plastic pollution and waste. Technology organizations often become machines that convert raw earth into superfluous consumer goods, ultimately creating more waste than meaningful value.

HMT attempts strike the balance between profit, people, and product quality, with the purpose of creating an organization dedicated to doing net-good for earth.
